German Sopena Tribute Tour

Perito Moreno y Patagonia
100 years on.

The Secretariat of Tourism of Argentina, Ciencias y Artes Patagonia (CAPat), the Centro Cultural Borges and Sopeña Foundation , are pleased to be able to present the exhibiton "Perito Moreno and Patagonia- 100 años in which the photographs of taken during the various Patagonian travels of Perito Francisco P. Moreno at the end of the nineteenth century. The photgraphs were presented by Moreno in his lecture presented to the Royal Geographical Society in London.

Also displayed are a series of photographs taken in 1999 by the journalist Germán Sopeña, in the same places as those of Moreno 100 years earlier. A great admiror of Moreno, Sopeña, has captured through his chronicles of travels, books and journalist articles, and on this occasion through his lens, the work and spirit of this man of paramount importance in the history of Patagonia.

The exhibition pays homage to Francisco P Moreno (1852-1919) who is intimately linked with the history of our country. A man of many different talents, he undertook many travels to Patagonia in order to study its geography and the geological and natural conditions of the area. He became the founder of our National Parks when on the 6th of November 1903 he gave the Argentine government three square leagues in the region of Lago Nahuel Huapi.

In summary, the organizers would like to make public the vision of these men who, through their different activities and interests, coincide in one esential point - their passion for the south.
